HANNA IBRAHIM SALLOUM (Naturalized, John Abraham Solomon) • Born, Hadath El Jubbeh, Lebanon (c. 1898) • Arrived to the United States of America, Ellis Island, 15 November 1910 • Youngest child of Ibrahim Gebrayel SALLOUM-GHSEIN, Hadath El Jubbeh Chronology: 1. Ibrahim Gebrayel was married TWICE; he had two children from his first marriage, Gebrayel Ibrahim and a girl, Mary. From his second wife, Barbara of Bziza Koura, Ibrahim fathered twins; one died and one survived. Hanna (John) is the one that survived! 2. Ibrahim Gebrayel’s son Gebrayel married Ghoretha Massoud Al-Ghossain from the Hadath, left for America and settled in Burlington, Vermont; his daughter Mary also came to America, married John Chamoun (Shamon), and settled in Boston, Massachusetts. 3. Gebrayel and Ghoretha had two daughters, Katherine and Margaret, and one son, Abraham; John and Mary had several children that died at birth, but seven daughters survived. (Aside: In 1991, we went to Lebanon as a family and met a relative of Ghoretha in the Hadath; his name was Doumit. He wasn’t very helpful because he thought we were after land!) 4. Hanna (John) subsequently came to the United States and arrived at Ellis Island on the SS Lorraine on November 15, 1910. He went to Vermont to live with his half-brother and sister-in-law and remained there until he was about seventeen. 5. Hanna (John) then travelled to Boston and settled with his half sister Mary. He became a tinsmith and a master roofer, putting himself through school at night. 6. In May of 1934, Hanna (John) married Ameline (Evelyn John Joseph Shaloohey), also from Burlington, Vermont. Ameline (Evelyn) was the daughter of Najeebi Mansour Suleiman (Solomon); Najeebi was the daughter of Mansour and Saide Suleiman (Solomon). Evelyn’s father was John Joseph Shaloohey. Mansour and Saide, Ameline’s parents, were both from Bziza (Koura), Lebanon. 7. Hanna (John) was officially naturalized as a US citizen on December 9, 1935. 8. Hanna (John) and Ameline (Evelyn) had three children: Barbara, Evelyn and John. 9. John was the youngest, born on September 14, 1949. He later married Rosanne Clare Williams (born January 6, 1949) on August 28, 1971. Together, they had four children: David Gabriel (born August 9, 1972), Peter John (born June 27, 1974), Stephen Anthony (born June 16, 1977, and Rosemarie Chafika (born January 22, 1980). 10. Sadly, John passed away on October 21, 2001. 11. David married Regina Joseph Hazkial (of Michika, Lebanon), October 29, 2005. 12. David and Regina have three children: Theresa (born April 14, 2008), Sophie (born December 16, 2010), and John (born April 6, 2012). 13. Peter married Sandra Thompson on June 27, 2003; they have no children. 14. Stephen and Rosemarie are single; they have no children.
